Anti-Doping

FISEC Anti-doping Statement

The value of sport

Sport is great! It keeps you healthy, is fun to do, helps you make new friends and gives you a chance to test your skills against other participants.
But sport is only great if everyone plays by the rules. Fair competition means that sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. But that is the true spirit of sport.
Becoming a good sports personality is also part of the spirit of sport: being able to win and lose with grace, respecting your competitors, helping your teammates, thanking the officials, inspiring others and promoting the values of sport.

Clean sport matters

We all have a responsibility to protect clean sport. When we watch sport, we want to know if it is real. Cheating in any form undermines the spirit of sport and the efforts of clean athletes.
Athletes, their parents and their coaches have anti-doping accountabilities that they need to be aware of.
They have a responsibility to ensure that everything they put into their bodies is free of banned substances, regardless of how it got there and whether there is an intention to cheat. Developing good, clean sports habits will help athletes in the future.

Fair-Play and clean FISEC Games

Our participants represent their school abroad and are at the beginning of their sporting careers. FISEC believes it is important, already at this young age, to draw attention to the dangers of unfair sports practices. Our Fair-Play actions during the games are the illustration of this.
From an educational point of view, we also want to inform our youngsters on the consequences of using illicit substances and about a possible doping control.

The Prohibited List

All prohibited substances and methods are outlined in the Prohibited List. This list is managed and coordinated by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency), and can be found on the WADA website. This list is updated each year.

Checking medications and nutritional supplements

Before taking any medication (whether from a doctor or purchased over the counter), athletes must check to make sure it doesn’t contain any prohibited substances.
They have to pay attention to nutritional supplements, as there are no guarantees that a supplement is free of prohibited substances. We recommend eating delicious and healthy food and enjoying a varied diet to get in good shape for sports performance.

Avoid using recreational drugs

According to the FISEC code of conduct smoking as well as the possession and use of alcohol, drugs and other banned substances are forbidden during the Games. Furthermore we want to warn that some forbidden substances in “recreational”  or “party” drugs like amphetamine, BZP, ecstasy, cocaine and cannabis can stay in your system for a long time after you take them.
That means you could use a substance out-of-competition but test positive for that substance in-competition. Avoid a positive test by not using recreational drugs.

The Doping Control procedure

Athletes can be tested by relevant National Anti-Doping Organisations (NADOs) or by a Doping Control Officer recognised by FISEC and FICEP.
The doping control procedure was developed by WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency). There are some adjustments for minors (under 18 years of age) to ensure they are protected.

Conclusion

Every year, the FISEC Games are a highlight of international school sport. Through their sport, participants connect with young people from all over the world in an atmosphere of friendship and mutual respect.
FISEC believes in the true values of sport and supports all initiatives related to Fair Play, including doping-free competitions.
In this spirit, we inform our youngsters, their parents and their coaches that violating anti-doping rules may result in a ban from participating in the FISEC Games and affect their team’s ranking. It will also be reported to their school sports association and the sports authorities in their country.
